Goldie: Art deco glamour and style

Inspired by a beautiful Dutch chair from the days of art deco, Goldie has a curvaceous scalloped back that is reminiscent of a shell, fan or sunrise, all of which were popular motifs in art deco design. The armrests curve up at the front of the chair to encourage the user to sit back and relax, and the back legs of the chair have a slight curve to balance and give the appearance of reclining.

While the form of Goldie has a sense of grandness and glamour, it belies the chair's petite size, which provides comfort for the sitter whether they are short or tall.

Art deco-era designers used luxurious and tactile materials such as leather, that would patina over time, and velvets that catch the light. The Goldie is no different, available in leather and velvet in a selection of colours that are modern and classic, beautiful for today and staying true to their time.

The distinctive turquoise colour of the upholstery is from James Stewarts’ new Applause range, a top-grain aniline leather. The unique colour quality is achieved through a special process that minimises the grain structure to create a very soft and silky-smooth texture. The leather is infused with waxes and then vacuum dried, which bursts the wax-infused dyes further into the leather, achieving multiple depths and dimensions in colour. The leather was patterned initially for the fashion industry, and used by designer brands at the forefront of setting trends in colour and texture in garments and accessories.

Goldie is also available in Commonwealth Dusk, a soft dusky grey. Commonwealth is a New Zealand top-grain semi-aniline leather that is luxurious in both its soft hand and ability to be easily maintained.

The luxurious Velvet upholstery in colour Lagoon is a vibrant, deep turquoise. Intricate stitching and piping highlight the curvaceous form of the chair, as does the light when it strikes the plush velvet. Other leather and velvet colours are available by indent order.
