Introducing the 1970s-inspired Milo armchair

The new Milo is a 1970s-inspired armchair that is simultaneously futuristic, retro and contemporary. With a handcrafted acrylic frame, the leather-upholstered seat is visible from all sides, appearing to be floating and maintaining a sense of light, air and spaciousness in a room.

Milo is inspired by Fabio Lenci’s sculptural Hyaline glass lounge chair, designed for Comfort Line Italy in the late 1960s. It is also inspired by other decorative art and furniture collections by American designers who used Lucite and chromed metal in the 1970s.

The generous and comfortable seat is cradled within 10-centimetre-thick acrylic panels and secured with exposed chromed metal rivets. This “hanging” construction shows off the beautiful leather upholstery – Commonwealth Dusk, a hand-finished semi-aniline. The subdued and neutral colour is a new addition to James Stewart Signature Leathers and expressive of the soft palette of the 1970s. Cushions are filled with feather and down around a foam core, and other leather colours are available by indent order.

Milo is an evolution of our best-selling Redford sofa. It is an eye-catching addition to hospitality, retail and corporate environments, and is a stand-out in hotel lobbies, cocktail bars, members clubs, workspace studios, executive offices and luxe clothing emporiums. It is also a statement piece in residential settings, from mid-century modern, postmodern and contemporary homes, to the more traditional, transitional and classic.
